| Lyrics: |
Endless Night
You can?t see me but I?m out here in the shadows watching you I colour your every mood And I?ve always got you on your own No need to be scared cause I?m there for you in everything you do I?m as much a part of you As your blood and your bones Hear my interfering voice whispering in your soul Your every act and every choice Are under my control
You sink like a stone as you fall all alone Into endless night You thought it would be alright But you were oh so wrong You search for a spark cause you?re scared of the dark In the endless night In the tunnel at the end of the light For oh so long
You tell everyone how you?re the one, you?re just meant to be Such bare-faced hypocrisy Is really quite breathtaking I feel for you, I really do, but we both know you?re lying And when you?re left crying It?s all of your own making You?ll try to put the blame on me when the lights go out Maybe it was you, maybe it was me Not for nothing I?m called doubt
You sink like a stone as you fall all alone Into endless night You thought it would be alright But you were oh so wrong You search for a spark cause you?re scared of the dark In the endless night In the tunnel at the end of the light For oh so long
Bridge I?m the fatal weakness in every man I?m the one who says you can?t when you think you can I?m the sordid little secret, the cloud across the sun I have you on the ropes I?m the one to dash your hopes I?m the one to bring you down
chorus

The Theory of Everything (v) I’ve proved the theory of everything For the huge and the tiny things I can travel in time See what the future brings Know who it is who is pulling our strings Oh everything is The force that pulls us together This force that pulls us together Can never tear us apart (v) Your strangeness and charm Is an oasis of calm In a random world Of strings and curls Where chaos hurls Me like a satellite I’m a moth dancing round your light To orbit forever Around your sun © The way that time flows And how the winds blow All the grains of sand In every land And all the stars In all the heavens They number nearer to nothing Than all of the feelings I have for you (v) A Brief History of Time Nearly blew my mind Now uncertainty And gravity Light years from me In a parallel universe Our roles could be reversed On another planet You’d be singing to me © The way we blink in the light The way the stars shine at night The way the sun goes down At the end of the day Like everything I can explain it all away Cause the joy that you bring It answers all of the questions and Proves the theory of everything

This is a remix of Alistair's tune for which the original notes are below. It has the addition of guitar, bass and harmonies. The iffy bits at 2:10 and 4:38 are not of Alistair's making but my poor mixing! - Nick
'One Swallow...' was written in May 2003 and features acoustic guitar, lead guitar and vocals/harmonies. Although it has a blues/gospel feel, it is not a religious song but encourages us to find hope in the smallest things.
Actually, reading this again, it sounds kind of pretentious, doesn't it? I don't know, you tell me what you think, leave me some feedback if you can spare a couple of minutes.... |

One Swallow Doesn’t Make A Summer
One swallow doesn’t make a summer One ray of sunshine doesn’t light my day We all lead such complicated lives That it seems we’ve got it made if the dice ever rolls our way
But from tiny acorns do mighty oak trees grow And peoples have founded nations on the seeds of hope they sow Why won’t I believe if I don’t see with my own eyes I need to feel it, need to touch it, need to taste it to realise
One swallow doesn’t make a summer But one smile from you can really make my day One swallow doesn’t make a summer But it might just be a sign that things are gonna go my way It’s gonna be alright, it’s gonna be alright, it’s gonna be alright It’s gonna be alright, it’s gonna be alright, it’s gonna be alright
Take your pleasure where you find it Don’t wait for the music to strike the perfect chord Don’t let yourself be blinded By false prophets who each claim they’re the bearer of God’s word
But in every falsehood there’s a little grain of truth It’s the needle in the haystack and the burden of the proof And working out the charlatans from the honest men Can be the labour of a lifetime and it is without end

Written to reflect a view on world events in February 2003. See if you can spot which ones.
I just generally got angry when I wrote this and the words came out freely. I could equally have called it 'Grumpy Old Man' but 'Both Ends Burning' describes it better
The great John Nightwolf added a bassline to this which you can hear at his site at http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/johnnightwolf.htm
Go and have a listen to his stuff - it's great! |

| Lyrics: |
It’s not what you know, it’s who you know Not where you’ve been but where you’ll go No one seems to care about the past But that is where you’ll find the truth You don’t have to be a sleuth But it’s a point our leaders never grasp They can’t say that they weren’t warned They claim to be so well informed They shoot the breeze but they’ll reap the whirlwind So when Bush comes to shove What the hell are we thinking of When we contemplate giving in
Hey hey hey hey That’s the price you pay When the world keeps turning And you turn away Hey hey hey hey That’s the price we pay With both ends burning We’ll burn away
US flags fly at half-mast To commemorate their spaceship crash And mourn the seven souls they could not save Meanwhile out near Iraq They’re counting out the body bags And digging holes for a million graves This kind of hypocrisy Will bring no good to you and me But it is being done in our names Attack symptoms, not disease And everyone’s an enemy The whole fucking world’s going up in flames
Hey hey hey hey That’s the price you pay When the world keeps turning And you turn away Hey hey hey hey That’s the price we pay With both ends burning We’ll burn away
Asylum seekers stoke your fear That Britannia will disappear And terrorists are hiding everywhere Where did they get the idea That they should come over here Well when our empire was over there So where is your humanity You lost it with your sanity When you swallowed all the tabloid hype That by the colour of their skin Not one of them should be let in But this is not a case of black and white
Hey hey hey hey That’s the price you pay When the world keeps turning And you turn away Hey hey hey hey That’s the price we pay With both ends burning We’ll burn away
What goes around comes around So we’re forever dumbing down By so-called reality TV The papers are just full of soaps So we believe that our hopes Are vested in c-list celebrities
Hey hey hey hey That’s the price you pay When the world keeps turning And you turn away Hey hey hey hey That’s the price we pay With both ends burning We’ll burn away Hey hey hey hey That’s the price you pay If you don’t keep learning Every day Hey hey hey hey That’s the price we pay With both ends burning We’ll burn away

Parking Lot In Los Angeles
Outside it was colder than a serial-killer?s stare And the silver wind could cut a man in two Inside he felt older than the mountains and the air Crushed by the burden of one single thing he knew Outside it was colder Inside he felt older He?d just arrived in the land of missed opportunities When he met his match in a parking lot in Los Angeles
She rode the crest of a wave, ran rings around the world Arrived like a storm on the California coast A slave would be the man who took on this girl Her body language spoke to him, devil take the hindmost Rode the crest of a wave A man would be a slave She played hard to get, and harder to please When he met his match in a parking lot in Los Angeles
Bridge
Someti mes you just can?t see No matter how hard you look It?s like wearing a blindfold When you?re trying to read a book
His soul could have been greater than the sum of all his past Would be greater now but for what he might have been It was only so much later as he breathed his very last He knew if he?d played a king she would have been his queen His soul could have been much greater Knew only so much later There?s no crueler hoaxer than serendipity When he met his match in a parking lot in Los Angeles He?d just arrived in the land of missed opportunities When he met his match in a parking lot in Los Angeles

| Lyrics: |
(You Mistake Me For) Someone Who Cares
You mistake me for someone who cares But you just caught me unawares You think we are serious We were just delirious It was only a bit of fun So I rode into the setting sun But to see the way you cried You’d think somebody had died I never meant you to suffer any harm But that’s the price you pay If you weren’t a sucker for a piece of easy charm Then you wouldn’t feel this way
(Chorus) You mistake me for someone who cares But you caught me unawares You mistake me for someone who cares You mistake me for someone who cares You mistake me for someone who cares
Well it’s just the way I am I really don’t give a damn If you thought I was mysterious Then you won’t want to hear this I don’t live in your fantasy I am who I want to be If you thought that I was curious My interest was just spurious Spare me the details of your broken heart I’m sick of hearing of it For crackpot theories you’re a master of your art And you’re looking for the facts to fit
(Chorus)
(Instrum ental Break)
You mistake me for someone who cares You mistake me for someone who cares You mistake me for someone who cares You mistake me for someone who cares

'You Save Me From Myself'
An energetic little ditty that trips along nicely! I like the sound of the lead guitar! Very Crosby Stills & Nash. Quite a catchy tune. I think I like it! |
