When Helge Krabye composed music (and did the sound design) for the two part television documentary "Japan", he collected real world sounds and instrument samples and manipulated them with MetaSynth. He also created a lot of waveforms from scratch (with the excellent wave editor window). He then imported all the sounds into ProTools and mixed this piece. The chords were input via midi using Robert Cory's MidiPix, and rendered in the Image Synth using an organ sound from Andrew's Atmosphere library. I did a 50BPM Spectrum Room treatment, some tweaking and filtering to taste and at the end using the Catheral Reverb preset in the Effects Room. I love this sound and wanted to share it, as an offering to express my gratitude to the WONDERUL toolset we have thanks to these visionary developers (Eric Wenger and Edward Spiegel at www.metasynth.com). |

'Pulse' is the first of a series of explorations of a particular tempo or groove. The goal is to create interest not through harmonic or melodic development but through simple alterations and modifications of a visceral pulse. The music was created entirely in MetaSynth 4 and all the parts are in some way derived from the initial synthesized pulse either through analysis and resynthesis or through reworking of the source image with different instruments. “X/T(ime)” is the structure, as well as the title of this piece. It begins with extreme low and high sounds, which gradually move in the opposite direction, continuing their directional movement until they have completely exchanged ranges, forming an “X” shape which unfolds over time.
