Something of a new departure for Box of Goats with much more of an emphasis on the vocals and backing vocal sound.
Difficult to specify but it's a wistful ballad about growing older and moves away from our usual guitar based sound with a mostly piano backing. I think it's one of the nicest things Alistair has written and if I heard it on the radio it would seem to satisfy most of the criteria for a winning pop song - strong tune, nice chord progression and good words.
Has a slightly jazzyish vibes solo in the middle too by way of a change. Hope you enjoy it!

The Bubble Has Burst
I was the boy in the bubble in my silk cocoon I was kept out of trouble by my silver spoon I stayed seen but not heard so they shielded me from dread And protected me from the monsters under my bed But a word to the wise robbed the innocence of youth Traded for lies by a stranger to the truth
(Chorus)
Just for a minute I was the first But then I had reckoned without this reversal of fortune Oh the bubble has burst To see or be blind, I don’t know which is worse I took the cup of knowledge with a raging thirst So I know, the bubble has burst The bubble has burst
I had a masterplan to change the world But I was just sixteen and I’d never even kissed a girl I just got started when a woman turned my head And all my grand ambition ended up in a double bed She shone like the sun and she showed me the stars I lasted the distance, but I’m still wearing the scars
Chorus
Liars and hypocrites lined up in a row And every single one is someone I know They missed the moral high ground the path was too steep They were broken by promises they could never keep But a word from the wise robbed those innocents of youth Faded by lies, they are strangers to the truth
Chorus x 2

Struck Twice By Lightning
First thing this morning I heard the storm warning Haranguing me from outside my window I chose not to heed it Well, I didn’t need it Thought the truth can’t hurt me if I didn’t know But now you’re something of a revelation Feel like I’m plugged into the mains Your energy is giving me palpitations Your power flows through my veins
Chorus 1 I’ve been struck by lightning And it’s not the first time Last time I felt lucky to survive Struck twice by lightning Chance in a million Only now do I really feel alive Struck twice by lightning Now I feel alive Struck twice by lightning Now I feel alive
The first time I met you So hard to forget you That I could not remember how to breathe You were the spider And I was the fly Caught in the tangled web you weave But now I’ve seen you in a different light The scales have fallen from my eyes I was shocked by your bolt from the blue I know lightning can strike twice
Chorus 2 I’ve been struck by lightning And it’s not the first time What did I do to deserve a second chance Struck twice by lightning One in a million I feel like I’ve been living in a trance Struck twice by lightning I’m gonna take my chance Struck twice by lightning I’m gonna take my chance
But now you’re something of a revelation Feel like I’m plugged into the mains Your energy is giving me palpitations Your power flows through my veins
Chorus 2
