Written in the summer of 2000. How it came about is a long story, but the tuning it was written in came into being after a long recording session with Joe Williams (recording his "Green Song"). Lullaby is one of the songs I most enjoy playing - I hope it will be one that people remember. |

| Lyrics: |
The cityscape surrounds you, it is home, it shelters but surrounds you, infrastructure renders you a helpless cell but then the sky is orange, burning other people's lives, the elements are bitter cold. You are used to this. Confusion plays its part, the fire that lights the sky, and keeps you warm, puts smoke into your eyes, is fuelled by all there lies, there's no escape, you're working late again.
I know this ain't no lullaby Heaven hates no lullaby It's too late to learn to cry We all meet hardship. Heaven knows what a way for hope to die
Facing down a one way street, Like facing up to other people's memories of yesterday, will always stay the same. They loose the crushing pain, forget the shame, of loosing all control, you have no name today. Creations die but they had only lived inside your brain now loose their worth. The winter rain will wash away your spirit now. The city lives today. |

Written in 2003 while at Cambridge university. It's got elements of a love song but... well, isn't just a love song. This arrangement sets it as I think it's always meant to have been played: just me and an acoustic guitar, plus some piano which was never meant to make it into the final mix but just, well... seemed to work. In some ways an ode to modern life, in some ways just a simple acoustic song. |

Selected lyrics ---------------------- I shouldn't be here I'm going nowhere Stay and sing a while I'm busy writing into words Your fallen king
Always be here for me singing To the streetlights Always casting limelight heavenwards While I'm sleeping Always ordering from Amazon And receiving Comms and telephones and changing stations On your stereo
Fell asleep on the pavement Tired and happy Loneliness had got a glow inside I thought that you love me And then I felt happy I'm not singing all this f***ed upness inside
We'll climb mountains And slide down them And paint pictures And kiss strangers And then shyly run away from All this city life is draining But there's freedom In the streets and I can hide there I can feel them |

The first original song that I performed live. It's got a mood that hasn't changed through its various reincarnations. Originally written with a long didge intro, it now cuts straight in with a minimalist arrangement - just rhodes and voice, before the acousitc guitar cuts in. A song which tells a story. |

| Lyrics: |
Cold Harbor is my name And I am cold as ice Oh God forget my fame Its misting up your eyes Some folks like to daydream Then they wonder what they've seen Hidden in the rubble That has fallen by their feet
Gotta save my soul tonight I Did not give a thought Who do you think you are, believing Who do you think you are?
I went down to check my soul It had not caught alight I went saw believers Believe everything in sight You, you're not believers You just want to know the night
God has saved my soul tonight I did not give a thought Who do you think you are believing? Who do you think you are?
Hate came down and held your hands you Did not blink an eye I looked down into my knees The devil in disguise
Coldness harboured in these eyes and in the news presenter's eyes and in the news was all their lies and no one knew. |

| Lyrics: |
Closed circuit TV Peace of mind And they're serving up gravy And Angel's Delight I was struck by the notion of Saving Time And how it's done nothing for The peace of mind we're all Looking for.
Deep in the soul The sun goes back in its hole In the ground Nothing is found We all stare into the ground God save us all from feeling too proud Coz gravity keeps us all stuck to the ground
You find politcs boring But are alarmed when they all come Crashing down around you Demand that you all turn a blind eye. Next doors installed a new Satellite And they're keeping me from sleeping With a million conversations On their mobile-phone computer-generated Random noise
Here on the ground, They don't stop Running around And hope comes crashing to ground When you know You're just part of the crowd God save us all from feeling too proud Coz gravity keeps us all stuck to the ground |
