Which file format do I need to use for my tracks? MP3 (Standard MPEG 1 Layer-3) is the encoding format we accept. Do not upload any other format (this includes MP3Pro of course) as your song won't be approved then. #top
Which bitrate should I choose for my MP3 file? Encode your file with 128kbps, 160kbps or 192kbps with CBR, constant bitrate (no VBR, variable bitrate for now) with 44,1KHz. sampling frequency. You should also encode in Joint-Stereo. #top

Any suggestions for a free encoding software I can use to create MP3 files? You probably want to download CDex. #top
Can you help me on how to setup CDex for encoding? Start CDex and go to "Options->Settings->Encoder" in the contect menu or press F4 on your keyboard and then go to "Encoder".
Configure the settings on the following screen so it looks like this:

When you're done with the settgins confirm and close the complete options dialog with "OK" and go to "Convert->Convert WAV to compressed Audio" in the contect menu or simply press F11 on your keyboard to open that dialog. This is where you can open or drag your WAV files to and start the MP3 conversion.
If you do not have a WAV file of your song but an already compressed audio file (which you would like to re-encode, to change bitrate settings for example), you must uncompress it before you can create a new MP3 out of it. Therefore go to "Convert->Convert compressed Audio to WAV" in the contect menu or simply press F12 on your keyboard to open that dialog. #top

What does OMS stand for and what's the relation to Soundlift? OMS stands for Open Music Source. It is a constantly growing database of indiependent musicians and music platforms from all over the world which can be accessed by partner websites like Soundlift to build up a music website. More info on www.openmusicsource.net #top
Why is the band administration area seperated from the Soundlift website? This is because we rather use the band administration of the Open Music Source System. We could have also designed our own band administration but as the one on the OMS website looks quite nice and is always up to date with newly added band tools and functions, we decided to link to it instead of rebuilding it. #top
