Look Von, I dont care for Michael Moore ok, he's even entering his movie Fahrenhiet 911 in the regulare academy "best movie" award, of course he already has made more money than you will ever dream of, or all the posters on every music board that exist, Im sorry his movie didnt quite do the trick to win this election the way you wanted it to go, could it possibly be that some saw past his
unique take on things! What happens in a playground when a bully comes and continues to pick on someone over and over, much of the playground gets fed
up with the bully, this must have been the case here.
Bottom line, Kerry just didnt fare as well as you and many would have liked.
It's done, move on and hopefully life will move on too without all this woe is us
mess, I think if we lived with every President that we have had in the past, surly we can try to live with this one, to me however, even more interesting were the Senate and House elections, very surprising indeed. |

Carol, it's not that so many "here" think that 50 million-something people voted for a questionable leader, you may take the time, IF you are interested in something else than America alone, to read up some press reactions from all over the world.
I did read and hear every single word Bush said since yesterday. What I heard was "good/evil" rhetorics of a radical christian and NO, not a single mention of Europe besides the expression "our American greatness" and "America, America, America". Thats what I call ignorance while Bush is referring to a "coalition of the willing", which just was weakened today again after the Hungarian defense secretary announced that "our people do not support this war anymore" and "we will pull our troops as soon as possible".
Anyway, here are some short press examples (in case you are interested in the world outside of the U.S.):
(Mirror U.K.)
----------------------------------------------------------
The 11th of September prepared the US for a man like Bush. He is the man of the dark hour.
Austria's Der Standard
----------------------------------------------------------
The world must draw conclusions from this result. With or without us America will continue its foreign policy of the past four years. Europe must close ranks, and build a military force in keeping with its economic weight.
Hungary's Nepszabadsag
----------------------------------------------------------
This America will continue its global "war on terror" and unwaveringly strike with military force whenever and wherever [it] deems it necessary... the old-new president will not lift a finger to ensure that the Europeans become what they would like to be - equal partners of Washington.
Germany's Sueddeutsche Zeitung
----------------------------------------------------------
We hope that those who have suffered most in Bush's first term will benefit most in his second term. The Palestinian arena is the best test to see whether Bush wants really to clean up his record as he knows better than anyone else that he has supported Israel's state-sponsored terrorism against the Palestinian people more than anyone else.
Oman's al-Watan
----------------------------------------------------------
Whether we like or not, America has become more conservative, more religious and more unilateralist, and the Republicans rallied on polling day just as strongly as the Democrats... And not even the economic figures in the red managed to convince the country to vote massively for Kerry. America remains split in two.
France's Le Monde
----------------------------------------------------------
Bush's election comes when the majority of people in the world said "no" to Bush, which will make the Atlantic chasm even deeper... The election outcome is a win for a conservative America... A liberal America, open to what Europe has to say, has lost.
Poland's Gazeta Wyborcza
----------------------------------------------------------
The American voters found the "danger" of gay marriages or the expansion of adoption more important than the soldiers being killed in Iraq. Mostly, the white conservatives of the American rural areas voted for the "tough cowboy from Texas". The youth vote in the port cities, the women, the Hispanics, the blacks were not sufficient for a change. Fear has won. The world has lost.
Turkey's Milliyet
----------------------------------------------------------
Bush should earnestly reconsider his unilateralist policies, examine his methods in the military, political and economic domains which harm others but also do not bring benefits to himself, and replace unilateralism with a mechanism for multilateral co-operation.
Hong Kong's Wen Wei Po
----------------------------------------------------------
Faced with the grave problems of sectarian and ethnic divisions, worsening gaps between rich and poor and world-threatening environmental problems, our global village will also not benefit from having a "faith-based" government in the world's only superpower.
Taiwan's Taiwan News
----------------------------------------------------------
What is certain is that the United States will be full of "bushes", wild grass which hurts eyes and hearts. Most ironically, these "bushes" have encircled and disrupted the world of other people, in particular the Islamic world.
Malaysia's Berita Harian
----------------------------------------------------------
The election of George Bush for another four-year term will multiply the miseries of the people of Iraq and Afghanistan and will further encourage Israel. The victorious Bush can badly endanger peace in the world through his doctrine of pre-emptive strikes.
Pakistan's Nawa-i-Waqt
----------------------------------------------------------
The next Bush Administration should be prepared to launch a new peace initiative between Israel and the Palestinians.
Times London

MIke, unlike many, I dont think Bush is trying to run the world.
Secondly, I dont think any of our Presidents have made decisions to pacify other countries. This country is who the President is supposed to be concerned about. I surly dont ever hear any other leaders from any other countries making decisions according to what other countries think.
And if bothers you that our President thinks our country is great, well, there's nothing I can do about that. I happen to like it too.
Perhaps it's time for everyone to sit back, take a deep breath and run their own countries the best way they can.
I was just reading some past history on President Carter today about Iran and the events that took place while he was in office.
Let's face it, seems many countries try to drag the USA into their affairs well enough all by themselves. If we dont go to Africa and the Suddan, we are ignoring it.
If we go, we want something, at least in many people's eyes. It's a no win situation. Like they say here, if you want a friend in Washington DC, get a dog!!!!!
Maybe if some other countries would just go to Suddan or Iran and work on peace without depending on the USA, we would all be better off. |

You get silly Off and On, you should be ashamed of that statement, you speak of your sons, and yet make a statement like that, it's a military term, nothing more nothing less, I really think that you need to be a little more respectful to our military.
This country is trying to fight terrorism, they dont want to own any country or anyone in it, and I think in your deepest heart you know that |

No, the adminstration doesn't want to own everything. The american consumer machine does, and perhaps we all need to look at ourselves to the extent we buy into it.
Don't know, maybe we all have a little guilt about how much we really on and are influenced by America.
The one thing this has done is made me feel closer to Europe than ever before. |

Carol your ignorance of world affairs and your illogical way of thinking sometimes phases me. Corporate America has been one of the primary causes of violence and war around the world from 1946 by doing exactly what you say it hasn't been doing, i.e. trying to run the world in its own interests - 140 military interventions, propping up fascist dictators, ruining local economies by dumping cheap goods on world markets, destabilising democratic socialist governments.
America has systematically made developing nations dependent on it. The idea that America works for peace in the world is just ludicrous, an ideology created by its government and media to fool its population. If only you could understand what's really going on. |

Wowie! You had too much African sun recently?
Now let me answer.

The USA use German ground and airspace since the end of WWII
for their own interests and still refer to the argumentation of
"you were defeated, shut up".
Go get a book about German economy and you will find out after the 1st., maybe (you) after the 2nd. page that a few tenthousand people would lose their jobs they have in direct and indirect ways because of the American military presence in Germany.
More of an impact would be, that so many people would lose friends, Americans-Germans-Americans-Germans, because the soldiers would be stationed further east (what happens anyway soon). The pain would be on the American side, because German women usually don't follow to Poland or Russia for MANY reasons

I was born more than 20 years after the end of WWII.
By any means I reserve my right to voice my opinion so do my fellow Germans.
The time is over that Germans can be shut up by referring to the 3rd. Reich.
Time is there that Americans and foremost British people ask themselves when the time is ripe to apologize for war atrocities like the bombing of Dresden.
We have GOOD relations with the U.K. (the Queen just visited yesterday again) and we have BAD relations with Americans and they will be even more worse in the future under Bush. Ask yourself: What is the heart of Europe, who are the founders of the European idea? Who made peace first and overcame the idiocy of WWII? Yep... I think it was France and Germany. We don't look back, we look forward (Bush did say that yesterday as well *ring, ring*). One thing is for sure, America will not defeat Terrorism without European allies and cooperation. France and Germany were good consultants when it came to the Iraq war, the concerns were not heard and laughed about by the American administration.
Germans are probably good consultants but American arrogance and ignorance deafens ears and disturbes sober thinking on the west side of the pond.

Germany is a multicultural society and probably a prime example for successful integration of foreigners. Germany did take more refugees since 1949 than America ever will and funny enough Jews today consider Germany "the safest heaven for Jewish communities" outside of the United States. You know where the two biggest Jewish communities outside of Israel and the USA can be found? Yep.... you smell it... it's Germany and France again.
Regarding your "retaliation" question "what...if... they... bomb... you).....
...so far I don't see any reason for muslim extremists to care about France or Germany, maybe because they know that we do not believe in wars anymore and try to coexist with other cultures on this planet in peace.
Now go and shake your coconut tree, because you obviously are too lazy to climb up the tree and see the light and wipe away the dust of the past.
Your thinking is outdated. |
